Renewable Energy Electron Beam Welding

The renewable energy sector needs high-productivity, reliable welding for large fabricated structures that must perform for decades offshore. Electron Beam Welding (EBW) delivers deep penetration, narrow welds and exceptionally low distortion, improving both productivity and weld quality.

CVE’s Ebflow local-vacuum technology brings electron beam welding to large structures such as wind turbine foundations, reducing fabrication time and cost by up to 25%. Welding in a vacuum creates an ideal atmosphere that prevents oxidation and removes the need to pre-heat.

Electron Beam Welding of Stator Blades

Fabricated using electron beam welding to join the many blade sections together results in a precise, repeatable weld. Titanium is perfectly suited to the electron beam welding process as it is done in a vacuum to avoid oxidation.

Electron Beam Welding of Front Bearing Housing

This extremely complex assembly is fabricated from several relatively simple components. There are not many other welding processes that you could successfully employ for this type of product. The part requires linear, circumferential, and planetary welds during successive operations.

Electron Beam Welding of Compressor Rotors

This major rotating component demands welds of high integrity, in 901 nickel. Fabrication by electron beam welding achieves savings in weight, material, and machining costs.

Typical renewable energy applications

From monopiles and transition pieces through to flanges and connecting structures, Ebflow supports the high-volume fabrication behind offshore wind and the wider renewables sector.
