Precision welding for the automotive industry

CVE’s Turbocharger models are electron beam welding machines designed specifically for turbochargers, an automotive component fitted in millions of vehicles worldwide.

Electron beam welding joins a cast Inconel wheel to a carbon steel shaft, producing a weld with deep penetration, a narrow fusion zone and near parent metal strength. Welding inside a vacuum environment keeps the process clean and pure, with little post-weld machining required.

How Turbocharger Welding Works

CVE has supplied around 100 turbocharger welding systems worldwide, with TW, NG and SP models available to match production volume and takt time requirements.

Many leading turbocharger manufacturers have adopted electron beam welding, a process that joins parts with high precision and significantly reduces post-weld machining operations.

CVE’s turbocharger models have a small footprint and high efficiency, and can accommodate manual or robot loading, with typical takt times of 15 to 35 seconds depending on the model and weld recipe.

The electron beam is a finely focused stream of electrons, which melts the two metal surfaces together, resulting in deep penetration, a narrow fusion zone and near parent metal strength.

Welding inside a vacuum environment ensures a clean and pure process, and every system supports MES and Industry 4.0 compatibility for full production traceability.

CVE has supplied around 100 turbocharger welding systems throughout the world, across the TW, NG and SP model range.

Industries and Applications

Turbocharger welding machines are used primarily in the automotive industry, joining components for passenger car and commercial diesel applications. The same electron beam welding technology also serves CVE’s other industries, from aerospace to nuclear power generation.
